Accidental Dwelling Fires

The majority of accidental dwelling fires have been recorded as occurring in the Kitchen.

‘Dwelling' means a property that is a place of residence i.e. occupied by households, excluding hotels, hostels and residential institutions. Includes non-permanent structures used solely as a dwelling, such as houseboats and caravans.

Accidental fires include those where the motive for the fire was presumed to be either accidental or not known (or unspecified).

The below chart displays monthly Accidental Fires over time.

In 2017/18 West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service recorded 479 Accidental Dwelling Fires.
